DRINK OF THE MOMENT: LUST FOR LIFE | POURING RIBBONS, NYC
Featured in Emma Janzen's book Mezcal, the Lust For Life was created by Joaquín Simó for Pouring Ribbons in 2012. The stunner starts with a bang of mezcal, easing into the secondary ingredients with style. “Despite its rich flavors of spice and chocolate, Palo Cortado sherry is a very dry wine with plenty of acidity,” Simó says. “The use of orgeat to sweeten the drink further echoes the nutty notes of the sherry, while the bright acidity of fresh-pressed pineapple and lemon juices keeps the drink balanced and refreshing.”
Ingredients:
1½ oz Del Maguey Vida mezcal
¾ oz Lustau Palo Cortado Peninsula sherry
¾ oz Orgeat syrup
½ oz Fresh lemon juice
½ oz Fresh pineapple juice
Mixing Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin, add ice, and shake well. Strain into a rocks glass over a large chunk of ice. Garnish with a light dusting of cocoa powder.
